The preparation of moving begins 1-2 months BEFORE your departure date. With an accurate and timely design, you'll have a decent move, follow the 10 steps that will untie your hands.

  1. Transfer of electical power, water and phone line to your new address. Ensure that water and power are shut down and reactivated at your new address in time. Transferring the phone line takes more time, from 20 days to 1.5 months.
  2. Inform agencies such as banks, tax office and employer about your new address.
  3. If work needs to be done in your new home such as painting, construction, repairs and of course cleaning, be sure to have them done before moving.

  4. Write down the items you are about to move (at least 15 days before moving) and contact a few different shipping companies to get offers. Remember, the less things you have to transfer, the less it will cost you.
  5. You have the option of choosing weather to pack the items youeself or let the moving company do it for you. If you choose to do it, purchase packaging materials to transfer and protect your fragile items. (Boxes, tapes, cellophane, marker, scissors, labels).

  6. A moving gives you the opportunity to throw or give away objects you hold for years without using them. Leave behind emotions and throw away or give away anything that can be useful to someone else.

  7. Start slowly by putting stuff in boxes and tagging each box by what it contains and for which room it is intended. If a piece of furniture has drawers and you do not intend to remove them, empty it and hold it together with paper tape to avoid accidents. Clothes can be transfered in big bags or hunged in specific card boxes. If you pack books, remember that they have a lot of weight and it will be smart to put them in relatively small boxes.

  8. Make a suitcase with personal belongings for you and your family, as if you were going on an excursion. You can take it to your new home shortly before moving. Leave it in a closet that will not have in front boxes blocking it on the day of the move. This way you will have the basic clothes, towels, sheets and items for your first 24 hours in your new home. You can also transfer yourself any valuable and fragile objects such as glassware and artwork.

  9. Call an electrician to disconnect your appliances, such as kitchen and air conditioners. Your refrigerator should be out of service for several hours before.
  10. On moving day start early and make sure there is space to park the moving truck in front of both houses. Moving is a time-consuming process in which we suggest you be present and supervise the transfer of your items. Once the transfer is completed, reconnect to power your devices and assemble your furniture. Unpacking will take more than a day, so start with the basics.

Save the list above, move and get your new home in order easily!
