Parnassus is one of the largest and most beautiful mountains in Greece. It extends to Viotia, Fthiotida and Fokida and is also a wildlife sanctuary.

The mountain is dedicated to god Apollo and the highest peak of Liakoura, took its name from Greek mythology. Apollo's mountain once had a city that was destroyed by the defeat of Deucalion, and its inhabitants following the cries of wolves moved higher to safety. This city was named Lycorea, meaning wolf howls.
