Information

Kefala family began to be engaged in winemaking in the early 1960s, where it kept a small traditional wine press in the village of Coruña in the Amani area of Northwest Chios and produced the well-known "red wine" of "Kouruniotiko".

In 2004, Dimitris Kefalas began the creation of a modern winery in new premises, located at the Schiniies site in the Volissos area.

In 2010, the son of Pantelis Kefalas, the third generation of winemakers, creates "Domaine P. Kefala", uniting the family vineyards and bottling the first wines.

The winery of Domaine P. Kefala is located at the Schiniies site of Volissos in northwest Chios, about 40 km from the city of Chios. Its operation began in 2004 and has a capacity of 30 tons of wine. It has a mechanical press, chiller, stainless refrigerated tanks, red winemaking winemakers and wine stabilization tanks. The bottling and packaging of the produced wine is done with an automatic monoblock machine and an automatic compressor. In the basement cellar of the Estate there is a cellar with oak French barrels for the maturing of the wines. All the process of production, from the vine to the bottle, is controlled in collaboration and under the supervision of the experienced Counselor-Oenologist Costas Alevizopoulos.

In the area of winemaking facilities there is a retail store for wines, exclusive production of the Estate. Future plans are to create a Wine Showcase and a wine tasting room to better serve the visitors of the estate.

The privately owned vineyards of Domaine P. Kefala are located in the village of Kourounia in the area of Amani and in the Volissos area. There, on the area of about 30 acres, the native varieties of Savatiano, Roditis, Athiri, Assyrtiko, Mandilaria, Fokianos, Chios and Vassilikos are cultivated.

The philosophy of the Kefala family is that with the art of the viticulturist always comes a good wine. For the above reason, the care of the vineyards is done exclusively with the effort and supervision of the members of the family.

The area yields do not exceed 800 to 1000 kilograms per acre.
