Information

The monastery of Agios Dimitrios is located 2.5 km. northeast of Kipseli village (aka Tourkopalouko) near Kokytos river.

The church was built by the Despot of Epirus, Michael Doukas, in 1242 as indicated by inscription on the south window of the transverse arch. Side outbuildings (chapels) were also built later on. The wall paintings date back to the 17th-18th century but there is no historical information concerning the monastery.

The church of the monastery is cross-shaped with chapels. There are single, double, quadruple or domed roofs and terracotta motifs decorating the exterior of the temple. In the interior, you can see the well-preserved frescoes. What still remains from the old monastery –which is now dedicated to Saint George- are the Katholikon and the Bank.
